As a member of the Hydrogen Alliance of Bavaria, Dickow Pumpen, along with other players from business, science and politics, has set itself the goal of promoting the expansion of hydrogen technology. With the first pumps for the LOHC process Dickow Pumpen succeeds in taking an important step in this project.
Hydrogen is considered THE energy carrier of the future and a key technology for climate protection. According to research, it is the first element to form in the universe after the Big Bang. Hydrogen is the smallest and lightest element on earth. It occurs predominantly in the chemically bound form of water (H20) and hydrocarbons (CxHy) such as natural gas or crude oil and is therefore already a decisive factor in our energy supply.
The advantage of hydrogen is clear: it leaves behind practically no exhaust gases when burned and is therefore considered THE environmentally friendly alternative to coal, oil and natural gas. Many countries have already recognized the climate and industrial policy potential of this chemical element - including the Bavarian state government. With the Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria, the Bavarian government is focusing on the development of hydrogen technology in Bavaria and unites the Bavarian government and about 240 stakeholders from industry, science and politics. The alliance is managed by the Center Hydrogen.Bavaria (H2.Bayern).
"With the joining of Dickow Pumpen as an innovative company in the field of mechanical engineering, it is possible for us to further pursue our sustainability strategy in the company. We are now among the pioneers of innovative hydrogen technology and already have a lot to offer here in terms of products," says Rudolf Deißenböck, Business Development Manager at Dickow Pumpen. "In addition, the network of the Hydrogen Alliance of Bavaria, in which competence and forces are bundled, is the ideal starting point for our company to work out, discuss and implement further ideas." In addition to networking, matchmaking, exchange of experience and information, the players of the Alliance participate in the development of a hydrogen strategy for Bavaria and coordinate and accompany demonstration projects. Detailed information on the objectives of the Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria can be found here: Wasserstoffbündnis Bayern | Center Hydrogen.Bavaria (h2.bayern).
Already in June of last year, Dickow Pumpen succeeded in delivering the first pumps for the process with "LOHC" (liquid organic hydrogen carriers) to a Bavarian tank plant manufacturer. LOHC - liquid organic hydrogen carriers are organic compounds that absorb and release hydrogen in a chemical reaction, thus making it transportable. During hydrogen uptake, a dehydrated form of the LOHC (an unsaturated, usually aromatic compound) reacts with the hydrogen in a hydrogenation reaction. This forms a corresponding saturated compound that can be stored or transported at ambient conditions. Subsequently, in a dehydrogenation reaction, the hydrogen is released again from LOHC and is available for further use, e.g., refueling cars.
Dickow's magnetically coupled hermetically sealed pumps HZSM are predestined for the transport of hydrogen or the saturated compound. The possibility to equip the pumps with a gas delivery stage makes the pumps self-priming. This special equipment is especially useful for loading and unloading trucks.
