The pump manufacturer Dickow Pumpen GmbH & Co. KG from Waldkraiburg in Upper Bavaria participated with three solenoid pumps in the major project of Hamburger Wasserwerke GmbH to recover phosphorus from sewage sludge ash. This innovative project lays the foundation for a social responsibility to protect resources.
(Waldkraiburg, 23.11.2020) Three special industrial pumps from Dickow for pumping phosphoric acid are installed in the new special plant of the Hamburg waterworks. They have initiated this important project in cooperation with Remondis, one of the world's largest service providers for recycling, service and water. The result was the so-called Remondis TetraPhos® process, which was realized with highly corrosion-resistant Dickow chemical normed pumps, among other things. In the special plant, sewage sludge is burned and what remains is ash rich in raw materials. The phosphates contained in the ash are eluted in diluted phosphoric acid and then filtered. In this way, around 7,000 tons of high-purity phosphoric acid are produced from 20,000 tons of sewage sludge ash per year. Gypsum is also produced for the building materials industry, as well as iron and aluminum salts, which in turn, are used in wastewater treatment. This results in a multiple closed material cycle!
The hermetically sealed centrifugal pumps from Dickow are ideally suited for these operating conditions, since there is no shaft passage to the atmosphere. Thanks to Dickow magnet technology, medias that are harmful to humans and the environment, such as the hydrochloric, sulphuric and phosphoric acids required in this process, remain where they belong.
Dickow's contribution to a sustainable environmental protection as well as to the economic implementation of the sewage sludge ordinance!
The raw material phosphorus is indispensable for plant growth and consequently for the entire food production. Currently, almost 100% of the raw material has to be imported in Germany and the demand is inevitably increasing. With regard to sustainability, the German Federal Government has aligned the sewage sludge ordinance to a mandatory recovery of the raw material by 2029.
DICKOW PUMPEN is one of the oldest industrial companies in Waldkraiburg and manufactures industrial pumps for various applications. In 1910 the company was founded in Gablonz for the production of water pipes and heating systems, shortly afterwards automatic cattle drinking troughs and centrifugal pumps were added. Since 1946, when the company headquarters were moved to Waldkraiburg, the company has specialized in the production of industrial pumps, which are used, for example, in chemical plants, tank farms or for seawater desalination
